Karwar: In view of public safety during the monsoon season, Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Lakshmipriya K, has issued an order banning all river, backwater and sea-based adventure and recreational activities in the district from June 1 to August 31.
The decision has been taken considering the increased risks associated with heavy rainfall, rising river water levels, flash floods, rough sea conditions, strong winds and other weather-related hazards that are common during the southwest monsoon.
According to the order, all water-based adventure activities in rivers, reservoirs, backwaters and other inland water bodies, including rafting, boating, jet skiing, kayaking, banana rides, parasailing, speed boat rides, scuba diving and other underwater recreational activities, have been prohibited during the period.
The order also bans sea-based tourism, adventure and recreational activities along the coast, as well as any commercial or entertainment events that may pose a risk to public safety. The district administration has warned that strict action will be taken against individuals or organisations violating the order under Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, along with other applicable laws.The restriction will remain in force until August 31, 2026.
